Tooth extraction at Pearl Roots Dental Clinic in Ngong, Nairobi is for adults and children with a tooth that is too damaged, decayed or troublesome to save. We always look at whether a tooth can be kept first, and when removal is the best option we do it gently and explain every step. It is premium, calm care at an affordable price, starting with a free consultation.

Treatments we offer

Extractions for adults

An adult tooth may need to be removed when it is badly broken, severely decayed, loose because of advanced gum disease, or causing repeated problems that other treatment cannot fix. Before we recommend an extraction, we explain why, what the alternatives are and what replacing the tooth could look like afterwards.

Extractions for children

Children sometimes need a baby tooth removed, for example when it is badly decayed, damaged after a fall, or not loosening on its own and getting in the way of the adult tooth underneath. We take extra time to keep young patients relaxed and to explain things in a child-friendly way. Parents stay informed throughout. Learn more about our children's dentistry.

What to expect

  1. Consultation. We listen to your symptoms, examine the tooth and the area around it, and check your medical history and any medicines you take.
  2. Treatment plan. We explain whether the tooth can be saved, why an extraction may be the best option, and what it will cost. If you will want to replace the tooth later, we cover that too.
  3. Treatment. Local anaesthetic numbs the area, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. We check in with you throughout and work at a pace that feels comfortable. If you feel anxious, tell us; our guide to dental anxiety has tips that help.
  4. Aftercare. You go home with clear instructions to help the area heal.

Aftercare tips after an extraction

  • Bite gently on the gauze pad as advised to help a blood clot form.
  • For the first 24 hours, avoid rinsing hard, spitting forcefully, drinking through a straw and smoking, as these can disturb the clot.
  • Stick to soft, cool or lukewarm foods at first, and chew on the other side.
  • After the first day, gentle warm salt-water rinses can help keep the area clean.
  • Keep brushing your other teeth, taking care around the extraction site.

Some soreness and mild swelling in the first few days is normal. Contact us if pain gets worse after a few days instead of better. If you have swelling spreading to your face or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, heavy bleeding that will not stop, or a high fever, seek urgent hospital care straight away. Our clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and is not an emergency or 24-hour service; our dental emergency guide explains what to do.

Premium care, affordable pricing

The cost of a tooth extraction depends on:

  • The tooth involved and how it is positioned.
  • The condition of the tooth. A broken or heavily decayed tooth can take more time and care to remove.
  • How many teeth need to come out.
  • Any follow-up or replacement you choose afterwards, such as a bridge, denture or implant.

A rushed or careless extraction can lead to complications that cost more time, money and discomfort. We focus on careful technique and clear aftercare so you heal well, keeping the whole experience good value. You will know the cost upfront at your free consultation, before anything is done.

Frequently asked questions

Will a tooth extraction hurt?

Local anaesthetic numbs the area, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain during the extraction. Some soreness afterwards is normal and usually eases over a few days.

How long does healing take?

The gum usually starts to feel better within a few days, though full healing takes longer. Following the aftercare advice helps the area heal smoothly.

Do I need to replace an extracted tooth?

Not always, but a gap can let neighbouring teeth drift and may affect chewing. We will explain your options, such as a bridge, denture or implant, so you can decide.

Can my child have a tooth removed at your clinic?

Yes. We offer extractions for children as well as adults, with a gentle, patient approach.
